With her powerful voice, 21-year-old American Ariana Grande is breaking every record going. She is the first artist in the history of music to have three songs in the US digital top 10 at the same time. Her single “Problem” hit number 1 in the US iTunes charts in just 37 minutes, one of the fastest ever journeys to the top spot. The album “My Everything” topped the iTunes charts in 80 countries – including Germany. And this is why, in the ceremony in Berlin on 13 November, Ariana Grande will be presented with the BAMBI for best newcomer.
Ariana Grande has had a fairytale career. Her début single “The Way” (feat. Mac Miller) achieved double platinum status in the USA and her two albums catapulted her to the top of the US charts twice in one year. Her current single, “Break Free”, shot to the top of the iTunes charts in 46 countries.
The BAMBI jury explains: “Ariana Grande is a young singer with a powerful voice who knows how to combine pop, soul, hip-hop and electronic music to form an irresistible dance sound. Her hits set new records on iTunes, her concerts sell out and she has millions of fans on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Her unmistakeable voice and unusual range spanning five octaves make her one of the exceptional talents of our time.”
The BAMBIs, Germany’s most important media awards and one of the biggest social events of the year, take place in Berlin on 13 November 2014. Television channel “Das Erste” will broadcast the show live from the Theater am Potsdamer Platz at 20:15. The BAMBIs are awarded by journalists to people who have enthralled, moved and touched the German public.
