He is one of Hollywood’s most versatile stars, and on 16 November 2017, Hugh Jackman will receive the “Entertainment” BAMBI in honour of his talents as an actor, singer and film producer.
“For many years, Hugh Jackman has inspired millions of fans in a huge range of genres, from dramas such as ‘Australia’ to thrillers like ‘Swordfish’, the legendary musical ‘Les Misérables’ and the highly praised films ‘Logan’”, the BAMBI jury explain. “Not only is he one of the world’s most popular actors, he is also a fantastic entertainer who has hosted the US Tony awards on multiple occasions as well as the 2009 Oscar® ceremony. An extremely charming presenter, he surprised the audience with interludes of singing and dancing and has appeared in his own shows on Broadway, for example.”
Jackman began his international film career in 2000 in the big screen adaptation of Marvel’s “X-Men” comic series. His charismatic presence and acting gifts made “Wolverine” one of the most popular characters in the superhero franchise, with two subsequent spin-offs also produced by Jackman. Further successes included “The Wolverine” and “Logan”. Jackman received a Tony for his starring role in the Broadway musical “The Boy from Oz”, while his dramatic role as Jean Valjean in the film version of “Les Misérables” earned him an Oscar® nomination and a Golden Globe.
His new film “The Greatest Showman” will hit cinemas on 4 January 2018. His role as visionary circus founder P.T. Barnum, who invented modern show business in New York back in the mid-19th century, is the perfect vehicle for Jackman’s talents as an actor, singer, entertainer and producer.
BAMBI, Germany’s most important media award and one of the biggest events in the social calendar, will take place on 16 November 2017 for the 69th time. Television channel “Das Erste” will broadcast the gala live from Berlin’s Theater am Potsdamer Platz at 20:15.
