21 BAMBI trophies in 17 categories will be awarded during the glamorous 71st BAMBI Award Ceremony on Thursday evening at 8.15 pm in the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden. All the golden deer have already arrived and are waiting in the safe to be handed over to people who inspire and touch Germany.

This year, BAMBI is particularly focusing on impressive women: Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Sarah Connor and Shirin David have already been announced and will be joined by Hollywood actress Naomi Watts, who will also personally accept her BAMBI in the category Actress International.

Naomi Watts: Role model for young talents

BAMBI honours the long acting career of Naomi Watts, who has been successful with movies like “King Kong”, the horror remake “Ring” and “Mulholland Drive”. For the psycho-drama “21 Gramm” she received her first Oscar nomination. Also, as a film producer Naomi Watts realizes demanding scripts in the male-dominated film business and stands up for other women. This is also the case in the bestselling film adaptation “Penguin Bloom”, released in 2020, which deals with the true survival story of an injured woman who, despite all adversities, does not give up. For Naomi Watts, who herself fought ten years for her dream of becoming an actress, this is a parade role. The BAMBI jury says: “With her persistence, the award-winning actress is a role model for young talents”.

Big social event

Sarah Connor, accompanied by an 8-member gospel choir, will open the evening with her hit “Vincent” – a plea for more tolerance and openness. Alone the opening shows: BAMBI is pure entertainment, an elaborate live TV show with more than 1,000 prominent guests from society, show business, media, politics and business, countless local fans, around four million television viewers (2018) at prime time, and a reach of 6.5 billion media contacts worldwide through coverage on all media channels. Around 250 journalists, photographers, reporters and cameramen report from Baden-Baden and thus draw attention to people who move the world.

In 1948 the first BAMBI was awarded in Karlsruhe. The statue, weighing 2,500 grams and gilded with 18 carat gold, has since then been awarded more than 1,000 times. The development of BAMBI from a film prize to Germany’s largest social and media event can also be seen from a glance at the red carpet: at the beginning, it was just 7.8 meters long. On 21 November a total of 240 meters will be rolled out for the stars of the media event at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, 35 meters of which will be completely glazed for the first time.

BAMBI will be broadcast live on the German TV channel “Das Erste”, starting at 8.15 8.15 pm.

Europe’s Prestigious Media Award

It’s the most glamorous society event of the year in Germany: With the BAMBI, Hubert Burda Media, one of Europe’s leading publishing houses, honors people with visions and creativity, whose exceptional accomplishments were reflected in the media in the past year. The BAMBI award is a symbol of audience appreciation and a tribute to those who have touched and inspired people with their actions, talents and visions. BAMBI puts national and international celebrities, exceptional people and also silent heroes in the spotlight. Europe’s most important media award is therefore also a prize that recognizes a person’s popularity with the public. Each year, publisher Dr. Hubert Burda, the award sponsor, welcomes about 1,000 celebrity guests from society, show business, media, politics and business to the glamorous gala event.
